FAQ

No, teachers only become part of the EUY if their federation/organisation is a member.

In order to be a full (voting) member, organisations are required to have a 4-year, 500-contact hour yoga teacher training programme that follows the EUY’s agreed syllabus. Other organisations can become non-voting ‘associate members’ that have the right to send a delegate to meetings, be elected to offices and participate in the work of the EUY.

No, they need to be a member of an ‘umbrella’ organisation. Some EUY members are federations (groups of schools), while others do not have individual schools.

The EUY is registered in France as a not-for-profit organisation.

The two working languages are English and French and delegates need to be able to communicate in at least one of these languages.

The EUY has a four-person Board made up of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer assisted by an Administrative Secretary. Together with the five Team Coordinators, they make up the Executive Committee, which meets regularly online to deal with day-to-day business.

Apart from the Board and Executive Committee, the EUY also has five teams, all delegates being expected to be a member of one. The work of teams is reported to and overseen by the Board. There is also currently a group which organises the online Spirituality Programme.

Some decisions (about the Congress for example) can be taken by the Board and/or Executive Committee, others (concerning the budget for example) have to be taken by the delegates, who represent their federations and meet twice a year in person (March/April, hosted by one of the member federations, and August in Zinal).

The key ones are the Yoga Teacher Training Programme, which is constantly being reviewed, the admission of new members, the organisation of the annual Yoga Congress in Zinal, and high-quality online talks (the Spirituality Programme and the EUY Academia Project) which go deeper into different topics related to yoga.
