Lola Ramos’s Testimony

I lived in Zaragoza and had a Yoga Sadhana school for 7 years. Due to  personal problems I decided to return to my hometown, Valencia, which I did in the summer of 2023.

I renovated a flat and also invested a large amount of money in a yoga school (Yam-Yoga) in order to start teaching in October 2024, which I was unable to do due to health problems.

My life changed abruptly, however, on the day Storm Dana hit, 29th October 2024. I was in my brand new flat in Catarroja at around 6.30 p.m. when the flooding began and I had to be rescued from the inner courtyard of the building. I lost absolutely everything.

The yoga school was also flooded, so my business partner and myself lost all our equipment. In the context of the school we luckily received donations that enabled us to change the flooring and repaint the walls, so that we could at least open it. This yogic solidarity really touched us, even if state subsidies were slow in coming.

I have no words to describe my current situation, which is incredibly difficult, but thanks to the help of friends and yoga practitioners, I’m gradually getting back on my feet.

For me the practice of yoga is sacred and even more so after Dana. I was in shock, feeling lost and insecure. It was hard for me to be positive and confident, whereas I always had been before.  A fortnight after the storm, I started practising again in spite of my state and, as always by the end I experienced a change in attitude, a sense of well-being and an improvement in my health problems. Now several months later, I can go within and be more present in my practice. The inward journey is helping me to live more with the reality of what happened, learning to accept what happened and to believe that it was not a bad dream. Through my daily yoga practice I’m looking at what the situation is telling me and where I want to go… I am thankful for life and for all the help I’ve received, enabling me  to get up and go on… OM SHANTI.
