Bringing the mind to the heart
Anyone interested in esoteric psyche-practices has heard of the Hesychast “bringing the mind to the heart” and the Sufi’s praxis of the spiritual heart (qalb).Awakening. An almost verbatim description of these practices can also be encountered in yoga. The Amṛta-bindu-upaniṣad instructs the following:
nirasta-viṣayāsaṅgaṃ saṃniruddhaṃ mano hṛdi ।
yadā yāty ātmano bhāvaṃ tadā tat paramaṃ padam ॥4॥
The mind (manas) whose attachment to [external] objects has been annihilated [is to be] retained within the heart. As long as it heads to its essential being, this is the supreme state.
